Chris WalkerChris Walker, ESPN’s No. 7 senior in the Class of 2013, committed to Florida early Sunday morning, elevating the Gators’ recruiting class to the No. 1 ranking in the nation.

Gators get their quarterback

Four-star quarterback Max Staver chose FloridaAfter missing missing out on several quarterbacks, the Florida Gators finally landed one on Monday. Four-star prospect Max Staver (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) camped at Florida last Saturday, and after patiently waiting more than a week, was offered a scholarship on Monday. Staver quickly jumped on it and committed to head coach Will Muschamp.
“They have been in contact with me for a while now,” Staver said. “They kept telling me be patient. I actually called coach [Brent] Pease. He said I have coach Muschamp right next to me. Muschamp said, ‘Are you ready to be a Gator?’ I said, ‘Yes sir.’ I told him, ‘I’m the guy, I’m going to lead the program. I’m ready to get it rolling. I’m ready to serve the school, the football team and the community. It’s a blessing.’ “

2012 Recruiting Class Florida Gators

A year ago National Signing Day came and went in a blur for Muschamp, who had about a month after he took over the program to finalize his first Florida recruiting class. The process went much smoother the second time around.

As Muschamp reviewed a sheet of paper listing the 17 players the Gators signed on Wednesday and the six early enrollees that count toward the 2011 class, he sounded confident that the Gators took a big step toward being more competitive in the SEC than a year ago.

Gators Name Brent Pease Offensive Coordinator

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – They first crossed paths about 12 years ago when both were chasing one of the best players to ever come out Lowndes High in Valdosta, Ga. He was a big defensive end named Vincent “Sweet Pea” Burns.

Gator head coach Will Muschamp was a first-time defensive coordinator at Valdosta State and liked his chances of landing Burns, who later became a third-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts. Meanwhile, Brent Pease was the assistant head coach at Northern Arizona, where he also served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, and appeared a long shot to land the talented Burns.

“We’re trying to keep him home,” Muschamp said. “We’re recruiting him hard.”

Bama paper already knows the outcome of the game

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Will Muschamp is a lucky man.

Not many head coaches get a shot at a signature victory in the fifth start of their first season.

Not many proteges get a chance to take down their mentors when their mentors are on top of the world.

Muschamp can slay both of those dragons with one stone Saturday night.

Floyd participates in NCAA eligibility hearing

His coaches and guidance counselor organized a bake sale fundraiser to help pay for travel expenses to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl scouting combine in January 2009. The story appeared in Sports Illustrated and ESPN.com.

“Supposedly that’s part of it,” Cohen said. “That’s why I was questioned. I know the cookie sale was still being brought into it.”
